VIKINGS HOCKEY CALL TO ARMS 2010
Vikings Hockey are Calling all players and supporters to Arms over the
weekend of 23 - 25 July in our annual Clash for Cancer. Every year our Club
puts effort into raising funds and awareness as part of the Cancer
Council's Call to Arms. 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer by the
time they turn 85, with more than 62,500 Australian men expected to be
diagnosed with cancer this year alone! Vikings Hockey is a strong supporter
of the fight against cancer, raising over $5,000 in the past two years -
helping to fund life-saving cancer research, education programs to reduce
the number of men that get cancer, and support services for blokes facing
hard times. All of our 15 teams, ranging from our Under 11 Boys teams up to
our Capital League 2 Men's side, will be wearing yellow armbands during
their matches being played on 23, 24 and 25 July. The yellow arm bands are
a show of honour and respect for men with cancer.
We hope to improve on previous years, raising much needed funds as well as
awareness - one in three cancers are preventable so raising awareness
matters. To contribute in our Call to Arms please visit
www.calltoarms.com.au
and Search in ACT for "Vikings". We also have a variety of interesting
fund raising options, such as sponsorship per goal scored during our
Clash for Cancer matches - we scored 42 last year! To explore the
available options, or to find out more about the Vikings Hockey Call to
Arms, please contact Simon MacNab on hockey@vikings.org.au or 0402 128
