Tuggeranong Valley Cricket Club
The Tuggeranong Valley Cricket Club Inc. (TVCC) was formed in 1976 with 27 players in the ACT Junior Cricket competition. The Club achieved district Club status in 1984 and entered the ACT grade cricket competition in the 1984-85 season. TVCC won the 1st grade competition for the first time in 1989-90 and the first Junior Club Championship in 1990-91. TVCC now has over 600 players and officials.
Object
The object of the Club is to promote and manage the game of cricket in the Tuggeranong Valley, and to organise appropriate social amenities for the benefit of the people of the district. The Club places special emphasis on player development, with particular attention being given to the transition from juniors to seniors.
Club Management
The Club's overall affairs are coordinated by an Executive committee which acts as the controlling body for official purposes, as well as a senior management committee responsible for the seniors and women's section of the Club. Separate management committees are responsible for the activities and finances of the junior and "In2Cricket" (previously Have-A-Go) sections of the Club.
Competitions, Membership and Fees
The Club provides facilities for playing cricket at senior, junior (Ages 8 to 17), and "In2Cricket" (Ages 5 to 10) levels. The junior competition is fundamentally traditional cricket with modifications to the rules to allow for the age of the participants. "In2Cricket" is a less formal type of activity designed mainly to promote participation and the development of bat and ball co-ordination skills. The Club plays on turf and synthetic pitches, depending on the type and level of competition involved. The Club normally provides all equipment and management of teams (with parental help in the case of junior and "In2Cricket"), all covered under a single membership fee. Fees are set at a level designed to cover costs including insurance, while ensuring the Club maintains financial viability.
Senior Cricket
TVCC has teams in all five ACTCA grades, the City and Suburban Competition, and the Women's Competition. In 2008-09, Tuggeranong won the Club Championship, and the women's team won the ACT twenty-twenty competition. Training is conducted at the Chisholm Sportsground.
Junior Cricket
The Junior and "In2Cricket" sections of the Club have a large player base and has 24 teams in most divisions in ACT Junior competition. Juniors play on Saturday and Sunday, with some younger age groups playing twilight 'twenty-twenty' cricket. The club also supports teams for girls. TVCC has won the Junior Club Championship twelve times, most recently in 2005-2006. "In2Cricket" is provided on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings at both Chisholm and Conder Sportsgrounds.
Club Affiliation
The TVCC supports the Tuggeranong Valley Rugby Union and Amateur Sports Club (TVRU & ASC) in providing recreational activities for the people of Tuggeranong. TVRU & ASC provided valuable support to TVCC in the construction of the clubhouse facility at Chisholm Sportsground. The clubhouse, which was opened in 2005, has made Chisholm Sportsground a high standard cricket venue for Tuggeranong.
